W2.EXE (c) 1992, Karim Khan
v. 1.1
This new version is for those who like using wowii but wish it had a menuing
system. All directions are explained upon execution of W2. I realize that
available is another menuing program that blows this one away with graphics
and mouse support, but maybe you'll like this because it is small and simple...
Or maybe you'll enjoy the changes to verion 1.1! Here they are:
W2 now only plays .ARM's. What is an ARM? It stands for ARJed MOD.
That's right, it plays compressed MODs. I realized I had better update W2
as soon as I saw that my MODs were taking up over 8 megs on my hard drive.
Since I can't compete with that other program out there, I took this new angle.
There are other programs out there which play archived MODs but I believe this
is the only one which uses WOWII to do it, and if you use WOWII, you know what
a big plus this is. Okay, here's what you should do to get started:
1) Have the ARJ archiving program in your path.
2) ARJ each mod with the sytax, "ARJ A XXXXXXXX.ARM XXXXXXXX.MOD"
3) Delete each MOD after archiving it. Don't worry, you can still unARJ it
later when you need to.
4) Type W2 to begin. You can change your default MOD directory from the first
screen. Press return to accept the default directory.
5) It takes only a little longer to load a MOD due to the ARJ process, but the
space saved is well worth it.
Okay, that's it. If the program pauses when you try to play an ARM it
probably means that that the original MOD still exists, and it is asking you
(even though you can't see it) if you want to overwrite the MOD. I realize
that this version is rough, but to a certain group of MOD players like myself
it is very handy. If you have problems, stop using it send me some mail, and
maybe I'll get off my duff and fix it. Oh, and sorry about the long process of
ARJing each .MOD into an .ARM. I would have enclosed a program to do it for
you, but the one I wrote deleted all my mods, and I had to get them back, so I
don't want to take that risk with the public!
W2 creates two .DAT files for its own purposes when you first run it. Also, you
must have a WOWII.INI file configured. If you don't, you will be using all
the default parameters of WOWII. Consult the documentation for more about
WOWII.INI.
